The MP 38 and MP 40 is developed in Nazi German during Word War 2. MP 40 is a submachine gun. MP 40 submachine gun is open-bolt, blowback operated automatic arms. MP 40 is an automatic gun with relative low rate of fire. The bolt features a telescoping return spring guide which serves as a pneumatic recoil buffer. MP 40 has a separate cocking handle. Most MP 38 and MP 40 submachine guns had an aluminum, steel or Bakelite resting bar or support under the barrel which was used to steady the weapon when firing. A handguard was made of synthetic material derived from Bakelite and was located between the magazine housing and grip.

MP 40 had 32 round magazine. It was the weak point of MP40 because MP 40 used double column, single feed design. Single feed design occasionally resulting in a failure to feed because single feed increased friction against the remaining cartridges upwards towards the feed lips. To handle the lack of MP40, German soldiers were trained to grasp either the handhold under the weapon or the magazine housing to avoid feed malfunction.
